Wave Connect September 2025 Update: Self-Onboarding & Custom Fonts
George El-Hage

After a summer packed with major releases - Live Activities, offline QR codes, AI badge scanning - September was all about refinement. Our team focused on making Wave Connect smoother, faster, and easier to get started with from day one.
Two features stand out this month: Self-Onboarding and Admin Font Uploads. Both came directly from customer feedback. New users told us they wanted to get up and running without waiting for a demo call. Enterprise admins told us they needed tighter brand control down to the font level. So that's exactly what we built.
Here's the full breakdown of what shipped in September.
Self-Onboarding: Get Started in Minutes, Not Days
Wave Connect's new self-onboarding flow lets any user create their account, build their first digital business card, and start sharing it - all without scheduling a call or waiting for sales assistance. The entire process takes about five minutes from signup to a shareable card.
This was one of our most requested features. Before September, most new team accounts went through a guided onboarding call with our customer success team. That worked well for large enterprises deploying hundreds of cards, but it created unnecessary friction for smaller teams and individual professionals who just wanted to get started quickly.
Now, the moment you create your account, you're guided through an intuitive setup flow that covers:
- Profile creation: Add your name, title, company, contact details, and social links
- Template selection: Pick from pre-built card designs or start from scratch
- Team setup (for admins): Invite team members and assign templates in bulk
- Sharing options: Generate your QR code, add to Apple Wallet, or order an NFC card
The Quick Start option is especially useful for teams that need to onboard new hires fast. A new employee can have their branded digital business card ready to share on their first day - no IT ticket, no waiting for admin approval on basic setup.
We've also built contextual help directly into the onboarding flow. If you get stuck on any step, there are tooltips and short video walkthroughs right there in the interface. No need to search through a help center or submit a support ticket for basic questions.
The bottom line: Wave Connect is now a fully on-demand experience. Sign up, build your card, and start networking in minutes.
Admin Font Uploads: Your Brand, Down to Every Detail
With the new Admin Font Upload feature, company administrators can now upload their own custom brand fonts directly into the Wave Connect dashboard. Every employee's card then uses the exact same typography that appears on your website, pitch decks, and marketing materials.
Brand consistency might sound like a small thing, but it's something enterprise customers care deeply about. When you've got 200 sales reps handing out digital business cards at conferences and client meetings, those cards are an extension of your brand. Having the wrong font - or a generic one - can make an otherwise polished card feel off-brand.
Before this update, teams were limited to our built-in font library. It covered most use cases, but companies with strict brand guidelines often had custom typefaces that weren't available. Now that gap is closed.
Here's what the feature includes:
- Custom font file upload: Support for .woff, .woff2, .ttf, and .otf formats
- Global font enforcement: Admins set the company font once, and it applies across all team templates automatically
- Design approval speed: Marketing teams no longer need to review individual cards for font compliance - it's standardized at the admin level
This pairs well with the branding tools we rolled out in August - custom domains, branded QR codes, and branded footers. Together, these features give enterprise admins full control over how their team's cards look and feel, without limiting individual personalization for things like photos, bios, and social links.
Performance and Bug Fixes
September's engineering work wasn't just about new features - a significant portion went into making the existing platform faster and more reliable. These are the kinds of improvements you might not notice individually, but they add up to a noticeably smoother experience.
Here's what the engineering team focused on:
- Dashboard performance: Faster load times for the admin dashboard, especially for accounts managing 100+ cards. Page transitions and card list rendering are significantly quicker.
- Mobile optimization: Improved responsiveness across both the card editor and the shared card experience on mobile browsers. Tap targets are larger, forms load faster, and the overall experience feels snappier on phones.
- Bug fixes: Resolved several edge cases around template syncing, contact export formatting, and notification delivery. If you reported a bug over the summer, there's a good chance it was addressed in this cycle.
- Infrastructure stability: Backend improvements to handle growing traffic as more teams onboard. This is especially important for large enterprise accounts where hundreds of users are active on the dashboard simultaneously.
These refinements matter most for teams managing large deployments. When you're responsible for hundreds of cards across multiple departments, even small performance gains save time and reduce frustration for both admins and end users.
Looking Ahead
September was a quieter month compared to August's feature blitz, but the updates were focused and impactful. Self-Onboarding removes a barrier for new users, and Admin Font Uploads give enterprises the brand control they've been asking for. Combined with the performance improvements, Wave Connect is faster to set up, more customizable, and more reliable than it was a month ago.
We're already working on what's coming in October and beyond. If you have feature requests or feedback, reach out to our team directly - a lot of what we build comes straight from conversations with customers.
As always, Wave Connect remains SOC 2 Type 2 certified and GDPR compliant, so your data stays secure as we continue to grow. You can review our security posture anytime at security.wavecnct.com.
